Living + Dining Transformation: A luxe colour palette and textural layers add warmth and glamour to this harbourside home.

Our inspiration for this heritage home project was the multi coloured hues of the harbour, which this space overlooks. Breathtaking views across North Head and out to the ocean informed our selection of blues, teal, ochre, mustard and greys which now imbue this space.

Our clients, a busy family, required new furnishings for their living and dining rooms in an initial phase of a whole scale renovation. In the living room, we selected contemporary furniture to contrast with the classic features of the Federation home and robust, colourful fabrics for an informal feel. The sculptural feature lighting offsets the stunning semi abstract artwork by Mia Oatley. A chunky wool rug, cushions and sheer curtains in the bay window complete this beautiful, yet practical space.

We specified a number of Australian made products from brands including Molmic, Grazia and Co, Marz Designs and art from Mia Oatley and Kara Rosenlund in our desire to support Australian artisans and designers as well as enable our client’s peace of mind of quality and service.

In the dining room, we painted the walls a customised dark blue, highlighting the wonderful high ceilings and creating a cosy atmosphere for intimate evenings when this space is most used. The existing dinning chairs were recovered in a gorgeous ochre velvet providing a wonderful contrast with the walls. The mirrors reflect the beautiful views and light around the space. This is the first stage in a large renovation of this heritage listed home by Smith and Cabban, one of the first ‘developers’ in Sydney in 1897-98.
