Cabramatta Federation

The transformation of this Federation home involved creating contemporary, flexible new spaces with modern finishes, while complementing the heritage details and the client’s existing art and furniture pieces.

Combining a timeless palette of blues, greys and whites with natural, luxurious materials, including marble and brass, we created a refreshing, modern update while honouring the period features of the home.

The brief for the kitchen included providing plenty of space for food preparation and entertaining, and to create a contemporary, efficient space while maintaining a classic look. Our design for the space centred around the large marble island and the walk-in pantry. The generously sized pantry features double basins, an Insinkerator, dishwasher and ample appliance storage, all elegantly concealed behind brass mesh shaker panels. The panels have the dual purpose of offering some screening while also allowing light to filter through and provide a feeling of connection with the rest of the living space.

The Artedomus super white marble island with waterfall sides is a beautiful showpiece and pairs perfectly with the Carrara modular tile splashback. The kitchen cabinetry was designed to reach just below the architraves, drawing attention to the expansive ceiling height. Cabinetry was hand painted in a soft grey/white and a customised deep blue. Australian designed wall sconces by Ism provide essential task lighting and add touches of contrasting brass, also reflected in the brass hardware.

The new kitchen utilises the space in a more efficient way and is opened up to the light-filled living and dining areas. Details such as the archway connecting the kitchen and hallway are extra design elements that tie the spaces together.

In the master ensuite an understated palette of grey and white marble created a calming aesthetic and enhanced the unique curved shape of the space. By incorporating a full height wall, we created a walk-in shower on one side and vanity on the other, making optimum use of the space and also shielding the bedroom from the bright early morning sun.

The powder room was refreshed with a custom made vanity featuring a black steel frame, Carrara marble top and tumbled brass hardware offset by bold, pattered tiles. The combined family shower room and laundry were updated with soft, warm colours and subtle patterns. Here we selected cabinetry hand painted in a Porter’s soft, neutral grey, with white penny round tiles and subtle patterned encaustic cement tiles for a relaxing space. Lots of bench space and the use of doors to conceal appliances makes the space function well for both purposes.

The end result is a calming, timeless interior that reflects the client’s personalities and modern lifestyle while honouring the historic architecture of the house.
